Classroom programs featuring live animals are a great way to educate your students! When a child sees a new mammal, reptile, bird, or bug up close for the first time, they are welcomed into a special world. Their senses are filled with new and exotic sights, sounds, smells and textures. This creates a unique learning experience that will surely enhance their education.
The Once in a Wild Classy Critters program delivers an interactive classroom experience. We believe that education is the first step in encouraging children to learn about, appreciate, and therefore want to protect animals.
Children are naturally drawn to animals. Their empathy and curiosity allows them to explore their surroundings and take interest in the world around them, which is why you’ll often see kids stepping over ant trails, petting the neighborhood cat or gently holding a butterfly when it lands on their finger.
Until a child experiences something hands-on, they may never truly understand what they are learning. Our animal classroom programs deliver an amazing interactive experience. Meeting a feisty ferret, a curious cockatiel, a slithering snake, or a tip-toeing tarantula up close and in person delivers a unique learning experience to support other classroom-based activities. The phonetics we use to describe what the children are seeing can even help develop their vocabulary and comprehension skills.
Studies have shown that applying real-life experiences to a curriculum helps students learn and retain what is being taught. Live animal programs can apply to many different classes or curriculums and are for students of all ages. From elementary school to college/university classes (or somewhere in between), encountering live animals up close is a learning experience students of all ages will never forget!
Participants will easily notice how each animal has their own unique personality. Whether it’s a rambunctious rabbit, a loveable lizard, an amazing axolotl, or a terrific tortoise, they’re sure to spark plenty of interest from the students and teachers alike! We explain each animal’s natural habitat, adaptations, quirky characteristics and most importantly, what food they like to eat! This stimulates a child’s imagination beyond our comprehension.
Not only are our staff very educated, knowledgeable and experienced in animal care, we also offer fun, clean and safe animal programs for every student and animal involved. We are not a traditional petting zoo and can set up either indoors or outdoors depending on your requirements. Trained staff are always present to ensure the safety and comfort of the students (and our animals). We are always available to answer any questions you may have. Learning about animals has never been so fun and easy!
