Once in a Wild’s UTSA 2023 Asian Festival Journey!

The UTSA Asian Festival, held on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Downtown Campus, was an absolute blast for Once in a Wild and all the attendees! It was a day filled with cultural immersion, thrilling performances, and delectable cuisine. And of course, Once in a Wild’s live animal encounter added an extra layer of excitement to the festivities! From the moment the festival kicked off at 10 am, the vibrant energy filled the air. Families and friends gathered together to celebrate and explore the rich Asian heritage and traditions that make San Antonio such a diverse and enchanting city.

The Once in a Wild team brought a menagerie of fascinating animal ambassadors from the Asian regions, creating a unique and immersive experience for all ages. From exotic reptiles like the Chinese Beauty Snake to fierce birds like the Eurasian Eagle Owl, there was something for everyone to marvel at and learn from. In the spirited ambiance of the current year, known as the Year of the Rabbit, it seemed only fitting to commemorate this auspicious time by showcasing our giant rabbit as well. His presence served as a symbol of prosperity, good fortune, and fertility—qualities that resonate deeply with the spirit of this remarkable lunar year.

Throughout the festival, Once in a Wild drew crowds and captivated the audience. Expert handlers showcased the beauty and diversity of the regions, sharing interesting facts and stories that left everyone mystified! Our Indian Ornamental Tarantula was the hit of the day, with their molt on display and everyone in disbelief. It was a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with creatures that many had only seen in pictures or on television.

In addition to the thrilling animal encounters, the UTSA Asian Festival showcased a multitude of performances and entertainment options. Dancers glided gracefully, martial artists showcased their skills, and musicians filled the air with melodies that transported us to distant lands. The stage was alive with talent, and the enthusiasm of the performers was infectious, to say the least!

The Once in a Wild team is always grateful for the opportunity to share our passion for animals and education with the San Antonio community. We look forward to future events where we can continue to inspire, engage, and create lasting memories. Until then, let’s keep the spirit of the UTSA Asian Festival alive, embracing the beauty of diversity and nurturing our curiosity about the world we share with these incredible creatures.
